Previously, we showed that increased extracellular tonicity promotes increased type A
natriuretic peptide receptor (NPR-A) expression through a p38 MAPKβ pathway in inner
medullary collecting duct cells. The endothelial and inducible nitric-oxide synthase (eNOS
and iNOS respectively) genes are also expressed in this nephron segment and are thought
